Both are fading in and out. Not parallel. 6700 not heard last night, 26 Mar, during checks after 1600. Also, 17700 was gone last night by 1530... path eaten by darkness (David Norcross, Kabul, dxldyg via DX LISTENING DIGEST) I'm hearing 6700 here most days, sometimes one station, sometimes two with different programs. Around 1400-1500 UT they start to fade in. Around 1630 or so it seems to be a start of the newscast, at times going on past 1700. As I reported earlier, the mode seems to be AM with reduced carrier. Has deep fades here, but at times peaks to a nice signal. Between the music (sometimes nonstop for ages) they have short spots, frequently mentioning Afghanistan. I guess they're switching between Dari and Pashtu. If this is not strong in Kabul, I'll guess the transmitter(s) are not in Bagram Air Base. Or is the local noise level very strong in Kabul? 73, (Jari Savolainen, Kuusankoski, Finland, March 29, ibid.) ** AFGHANISTAN [non]. RTA, R. Afghanistan (tentative): 6130, 27 March, 1435-1445 check - definitely hearing SW Asian language under China, when China not playing music. No apparent signal on 7145. Not sure if 6130 should be lots stronger if it is really RA. 6130 continuing past 1500. Music off on China, but new OM announcer on tentative R. Afghanistan with low voice, hard to decipher. Signal is pretty steady (as is China, of course). (David Norcross, Kabul, dxldyg via DX LISTENING DIGEST) Unfortunately there is another possibility, Iran`s Bengali service via Kamalabad site at 1430-1530 on 6130, 500 kW, supposedly azimuth 178 degrees, which does not make sense. And is Laos active on 6130 at 2200-1500? Quite a coincidence that Kabul`s other frequency 7145 is also Laotian (Glenn Hauser, OK, ibid.) Glenn - yes, You're right; and Dari and Persian (Farsi) are quite similar. I'm fairly sure it's not Laos (the two-frequency match is ironic or something). I would have thought Iran and Afghanistan would both be stronger than what I am hearing. Will keep at it. The signal under China was gone after 1530, so very likely Iran. Didn't get any kind of read on the language, except 'SW Asian'. Will stab at this one some more in future days. Will try to find out here in Kabul if anyone knows their planned startup. I occasionally drive by the Telecommunications Ministry near the US Embassy; would be great to get a visit there. Afghans are very hospitable folks (David Norcross, Kabul, dxldyg via DX LISTENING DIGEST) See IRAN One of the employees in our 'villa' in Kabul recently worked for the Radio and TV Ministry. He told me he will ask the engineer when the SW broadcasts are to begin. Cross your fingers (David Norcross, Afghanistan, March 28, dxldyg via DX LISTENING DIGEST) Kabul FM and MW Radio and TV Stations --- Here are the radio stations provided to me by a recent employee of RTA (?) FM 93(.0?) FM 102.5 MW 1107 All ostensibly operate Kabul time 5:30 - 23:00 (UT 0100 - 1830) Still hunting for SW startup date. There are three TV stations of which I am aware: one specializes in Indian(!) pop music videos. One or two such videos are interesting, an all day diet is less than interesting. This same station also airs Indian soap operas. They are somewhat refreshing in that they hearken back to 50s - 60s TV show techniques. Great fun (for a few minutes now and then). [Later:] RTA Radio Kabul --- On 31 Mar at 1610, 1107 MW, 102.5 FM, and 93.0 FM all parallel with man speaking feelingly in Dari. Heard "Kor`an" a few times. Not sure why they need two FM stations, if always //... but don't know this for sure. The local media is giving lots of time to mullahs and others encouraging people to not include violence as part of Islam (David Norcross, Afghanistan, March 31, dxldyg via DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** AFGHANISTAN. R. Solh, 17700 via UK, audible from 1405, and coming in well by 1420 with improving conditions, March 31 at 17700; mostly solh music, but some speeches in Pashto lasting a few minutes. Their playback is still skewed so that the Solh Theme once again did not start until 1458, and was interrupted at 1500 for ID and then into other music. REE claims to have used 15345 many years, and since RAE doesn`t go to HFCC, tough. This is nonsense. I happen to have HFCC B-04 on file, and guess what: No Spain registered for 15345, but ARGENTINA WAS, at that time: 15345 1200 1400 6-13 BUE 100 35 12345 311004 270305 D Spanish ARG RAE 15345 1800 2400 27,28,37 BUE 100 35 1234567 311004 270305 D EnFrGerSpa In A-05, neither Spain nor Argentina showed on 15345, just Morocco, etc. Since RAE`s usage doesn`t change perceptibly from season to season or year to year, all they had to do was renew the old registrations, but they dropped the ball. The above also displays the lamentable bureaucratic mentality reigning at too many stations: if it`s not on paper, it doesn`t exist (Glenn Hauser, DX LISTENING DIGEST) Saludos, Les/Os invito a consultar varios esquemas anteriores buscando REE en 15345. Me parece fantasma. Since the programming is theoretically (??!!) meant to be heard by listeners, without whom it is ``an exercise in piety``, we listeners must unfortunately take an activist role when the `professionals` mess things up so badly (Glenn Hauser, DX LISTENING DIGEST) Il fatto era noto a tutti ma, marocchini a parte, la scelta € ¦è stata sempre rispettata da tutti e la frequenza lasciata in uso agli argentini. República sked appears to have changed to: *0000-0200 6155 [ex-6185, Rampisham UK?] 0200-0400 6100 [ex 0300-; was thought to be Sackville, but not now?] [Is it still on 6135 at 2200-2400? Yes, Kai had it there March 25] *0000-0400 5910 [ex-5970, Germany, WRMI broker]. Thought it still opened at 2300, weekdays only. *0200- 9735 [ex-9630, Sackville, WRMI broker]. UT Tue-Sat only I checked out R. República UT March 28: at 0020, 6155 plus heavy jamming; ex-6185 was still also jammed somewhat; 5910 had no jamming; ex-5970 still had some jamming. 5910 seemed to be // or almost // 6155, but with one receiver in hand could not be certain. After 0100, the same plus 9735 was unjammed, ex-9630 still with some jamming (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) Another version: ** CUBA [non]. Prompted by Yimber Gaviria`s observations, I checked out R. República, UT March 28. Some changes have been made concerning the top-secret VTC relays via Rampisham(?), UK, which are withheld from HFCC. At 0020 UT, 6155 ex-6185 was already being jammed, but just in case, some jammers were still running on 6185. After 0200 they were jamming something in Spanish, presumably poor XEPPM. Cubans vs Mexicans! At 0021, RR via RMI via Germany 5910 was free of jamming, which was still on the vacated 5970. 5910 seemed to be // or almost // 6155, but with one receiver in hand could not be certain. At 0158, I tuned to 6100 to confirm Yimber`s report that RR was now opening this frequency at 0200 instead of 0300. Yes, but collides with RCI in Mandarin which runs until 0205; fast SAH between them. At least this rules out Sackville as the current site for RR on 6100; I suppose it`s back to Rampisham for summer. Recheck at 0232 found French mixing with RR on 6100! At first I thought the French was another RCI broadcast, but instead it is a new relay via Sackville of Vatican Radio at 0230-0400 in French, English presumably at 0250, and Spanish, in exchange for RCI transmissions via Sta Maria di Galeria. O yes, Cuban heavy jamming on 6100 thruout, vs. Canada and Catholix as well. At 0202, RR via RMI via Sackville on 9735 was loud and clear, no jamming audible, but some was still on vacated 9630, and now that`s hitting REE Costa Rica // Spain 9620. Cuban commie collateral damage by jamming spreads wider and wider against countries it ought to try to befriend (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** CZECHIA [and non]. Hello, when returning from a business meeting at Chemnitz I took a break at nearby Mittweida, where I also took the radio out. It was frightening to hear on the local 99.3 college station how a girl got almost paralysed by stage fright while reading out the news ... and here is an AM-related observation: At least some of the transmission equipment for 954 at Karlovy Vary must have been replaced, since this transmitter has no longer the typical warm and rich Czech (or rather Czechoslovak) AM sound, mostly a product of Tesla-made audio processing gear, called LK-12 as I was told a while ago. Instead Karlovy Vary now sounds entirely different, with a suppressed bass range, lots of presence boost and different dynamic compression, resulting in an unpleasant, shrill reproduction of music as well as exaggerated breathes and reverb on speech. // 639 is much more pleasant to listen to, at least to my taste. So probably Karlovy Vary now uses a new transmitter, since a mere replacement of the audio chain appears to be less likely. If so it could be a Transradio TRAM, like the transmitter used for some time for DRM tests on 774. Another possibility would be Thomson, as is the case with new equipment at some Czech FM sites. While researching the details of Czech transmitters for this notice I found also two photo collections of AM sites, Litomysl and Ceske Budejovice: http://www.dxradio.cz/fotografie.asp?img=pohodli http://www.dxradio.cz/fotografie.asp?img=husovakolonie (All special characters omitted, would most likely be destroyed by the e-mail system here.) And if not seen yet: http://blogs.rnw.nl/medianetwork/?p=7629 Wonder if they will be also pop up on 1008 at short notice if this frequency will indeed be empty by then? Good night, (Kai Ludwig, Germany, March 30, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** CZECHOSLOVAKIA. One thing puzzles me: Radio Slovakia's signal is usually excellent, but Radio Prague, located in the same region, is always poor. I wonder why? (Ed Stone, NY, DX LISTENING DIGEST) Hmm, don`t know about Prague vs Slovakia. Interesting observation. Could you be more specific? (Glenn to Ed, via DXLD) I usually listen at 0100 UT to Prague on 6200 or 7345. Also at 0100 Radio Slovakia is on 7230 (and 9440). Slovakia's signal is always much better; my only antenna at the moment is a 40-foot length of random wire strung around the room but mostly across a North-facing window. Prague has usually been weak, with lots of noise and fading. Slovakia's signal is strong and very listenable. When Czechoslovakia split, perhaps Slovakia got the better transmitter (Ed Stone, NYC, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** ECUADOR. The two versions of German (High and Low) were well heard via 9740 from HCJB this Monday morning between 0630 and 0730. Obviously, from the strength of the signal, they still have an antenna capable of reaching Europe. I assume they've given up trying to convert we British (Noel Green, March 26, DX LISTENING DIGEST) This also puts a good signal into OK; wonder how direxional it is? (gh) ** ETHIOPIA. Re 7-039, V. of Tigray Revolution: Many thanks to Alan Pennington and Jari Savolainen for their replies on this. But I still wonder if this station is having technical problems and is on the air erratically. Although Alan and Jari reported hearing it yesterday (26th) on 9650, I can hear nothing at all on that channel today (checking from 1630 to past 1700 - not even a carrier), using a good receiver and aerial here in Caversham, although I can hear nearby Eritrea on 7175, so propagation is OK. And friends in Nairobi (where reception is normally good) also say nothing was heard today on 9650, 5980, 6350 or 5500 (Chris Greenway, UK, March 27, dxldyg via WORLD OF RADIO 1352, DX LISTENING DIGEST) Today, around the same time you monitored, same results here, both 9650 and 5980 empty (Jari Savolainen, Finland, ibid.) ** EUROPE. Must have been an important silly ballgame going on in Europe (or more than one at once?), as I heard play-by-play in four languages from four stations, March 28: 1833 on 15630, V. of Greece, F-G, with no breaks, so Avlis, not Pyrgos; 1908 sure sounded like a commercial break, in Greek 1834 on 15560, RDPI, VG; also at 1850 on this and much weaker // 11905 as announcer was giving SW transmission sked during a break, 1851 back to game. I credit the Portuguese with speaking the most rapidly 1856 on 15530, Rai in Italian play-by-play, or should I say ``tutto il calcio minuto per minuto`` 1911 on 17850, REE via Costa Rica, mentioning game taking place in Palma de Mallorca, also on 17595 direct, which earlier at 1841 was running a Spanish lesson for Brazilians with a lot of sounders. No luck in getting any live game coverage from BBC, DW or RN, tsk2 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) The silly ballgames you heard from Greece, Portugal, Spain and Italy were in fact qualifying soccer matches for next year's European Championship, involving the above-mentioned national teams; Rai must have reserved 15530 for this purpose on 3/28 (Joe Hanlon, NJ, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** FRANCE. 9805 / 11995. Former RFI Hausa language section missing here. Only French programme could be heard. 0600-0630 UT. On RFI website http://www.rfi.fr/index.asp I could find some satellite and local FM frequency information but missing shortwave advice totally (Wolfgang Büschel, Germany, March 28, dxldyg via DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** GABON. Afropop music jammer, which after 1400 is usually just distracting on 17660, heard on 17675 instead, at 1343 March 28, abutting much stronger CVC 17680. 17675 agrees with José Miguel Romero`s monitoring, and also Sawt al-Amal on 17672.5 and 17677.5, not identifiable here. SAA runs until 1400 so Afropop is really trying to jam it then. BTW, a press report from Ivory Coast says Col. Ghaddafi now owns Africa Numéro Un; so hence also spare transmitters he can use for his own nefarious jamming (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** GABON [and non]. AL-QADHAFI REPORTEDLY BUYS CASH-STRAPPED GABONESE RADIO STATION | Text of report by Ivorian newspaper L’Inter on 21 March In 2005, we wrote in these same columns that the management of radio station Africa No.1 was financially strapped, and it was therefore difficult to meet the charges due for the Panafrican medium. At the time, the Gabonese minister of communication made an announcement to the press reporting the hard times, which could possibly lead to the closing down of Africa No. 1. With things having reached this point, the radio station officials had allowed back licensing fees owed to the National Audiovisual Communication Council (CNCA) in Abidjan to build up. As a result, the broadcasting of Africa No. 1 FM programmes was suspended in the Ivorian economic capital. Nevertheless, good fortune seems to have smiled at the station’s employees, and the African network will take off again very soon. Actually, it was bought by a big financier in the person of Colonel Muammar al-Qadhafi. Information making its way around high-ranking circles recently indicates that the Libyan Guide is the new owner of Africa No.1. The amount of the deal pulled off by the president of Libya and his counterpart El Hajj Omar Bongo of Gabon: 5 million euros (about 3.2 billion CFA francs). Africa No.1 will no longer be under the control of the Gabonese Government, but of the Libyan Republic. Given this new start, no one doubts that the arrears owed to the CNCA will be paid, to the delight of listeners in Cote d’Ivoire. Propagation is just bad at the moment. Israel's A-07 sked shows Arabic will be deleted from 31 March, using the single frequency 5915 kHz and an old 20 kilowatt transmitter into a bi-directional dipole antenna at 40/220 degrees. Not per TDP http://www.tdp.info/alb.html which shows a 100 and a 50. But it also shows Shijak with only one 100 kW, while we know they have at least two. This TDP info appears to be far out of date! WRTH 2007 page 422 shows: Cërrik 2 x 50, 4 x 100 kW; Shijak 3 x 100 kW, but no mention of any 150 kW. That is a rather odd power, unless referring to e.g. a 250 kW being operated at reduced power, as is in reality often true. WRTH page 429 does not show any 150 kW in Bulgaria either nor does TDP at http://www.tdp.info/bul.html (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) Yes, the current equipment at Cërrik, installed by the Chinese in autumn 2004, is described as 6 x 150 kW transmitters. Back then all existing equipment had been scrapped, so older data is obsolete now. See also the IRRS schedule in DXLD 7-038: It shows 150 kW as well. This schedule had been forwarded by Drita Çiço, so perhaps she has a comment on this matter, although Radio Tirana appears to be no longer involved in the operation of the Cërrik station at all? Will try to remember the matter on Sunday, after arriving here only after 1830 today (Kai Ludwig, Germany, March 30, DX LISTENING DIGEST) Well-informed sources outside Albania say this report is nonsense, and that IRRS in fact comes from Bulgaria. NORTH KOREA JAMS "SHIOAZE" FROM YAMATA SITE Yomiuri Shimbun reported on March 29: "Inventment [sic; Investigation?] Committee of the Missing Japanese probably related to North Korea" announced that "Shiokaze" broadcast over KDDI Yamata transmission site (2030-2100 6045 kHz) was jammed. Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications presumed the jamming was from North Korea. The committee, along with the Japanese government, will ask North Korea via ITU to stop jamming. The jamming was officially detected by the national monitoring facility at Miura peninsula near Tokyo on March 28. The committee says jamming the official licensed radio broadcast is a violation of sovereignty. According to Asian Broadcasting Institute: They may use alternative frequencies 6080, 6085, 6185 kHz to cope with jamming if necessary. Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications measured the jamming was from the suburbs of P`yongyang. Although the jamming is detected in Tokyo, reported reception in Seoul and western Japan is rather good. It is presumed the reception in P`yongyang is also good, instead of jamming, due to the "skip" phenomena of shortwave. Since May 2006, North Korea has jammed "Shiokaze" broadcast from VT Communications facilities. This is the second time that they jam the transmission from Yamata site. The first was in March 1993, when North Korea withdrew NPT [?], for a few days against Korean service of Radio Japan (Takahito Akabayashi, Japan, March 30, DX LISTENING DIGEST) 2030-2100 UT on 6045 kHz: from March 28 transmission, jamming started (Toshi Ohtake, JSWC via Wolfgang Büschel, DX LISTENING DIGEST) 6045, Shiokaze One via Yamata, 2040-2100*, March 30, YL announcer (believe in Japanese), 2056 sign-off announcement, fair to good, with no jamming heard. "Turkish" on 4835 at 1515-1545 is actually Turki (spoken in parts of the ME and former CIS). Dari shown at 1515- 1545 on 4835 (same time as above) is a "mistake". Actual transmission time MIGHT be 1330-1400. [no, Turki is wrong: see further below] As you will see, only one transmitter appears to be in use for all Foreign services using the 100 kW transmitters (API-1, 2 and 3). API-2 carries/carried domestic and foreign services but these, as well as transmissions via API-1, have not been heard for some time. All I was told about the Dari service is that the schedule shown is a "mistake" and so the timing needs to be confirmed. One of the two high-power (250 kW) units is now also faulty as heard via 17835 and 7530 and only emitting buzz and distortion at low strength. API-4 5080 and API-8 4790 from Rewat are still reported on air (Noel Green, England, March 28, DX LISTENING DIGEST) Radio Pakistan's printed schedule arrived today, and here's the updated domestic and foreign services. The only remaining DOMESTIC "Regional Services" on SW are: via API-4 (Rewat 100 kW), 0200-0400 and 1300-1800 on 5080 (This same transmitter is the one listed for Islamabad Programme to Gulf & Iran on 6235 at 1915-0045 via 260 degrees) and via API-8 (Rewat 100 kW), Rawalpindi III (otherwise identified as Azad Kashmir), 0045-0215 & 1445-1815 on 4790 and 0900-1215 on 7265. And this same transmitter is used to carry Balti Service 0430-0515 and Sheena Service 0530-0615, both on 6065. The Rawalpindi 10 kW unit is still used at 0230-0425 and 1335-1430 on 4790 for "Rawalpindi III Programme". Quetta 10 kW continues 0045-0404(Friday 0345) and 1200-1805 on 5025; 0600-1145 (Fri only 0400-0820 & 1000-1145) on 7155 And they still list Peshawar 10 kW at 1100-1400 on 7220 for Chitrali service. Foreign Service via Rewat API-3 100 kW: The Turki Service is the one wrongly listed in their previous schedule - it should be 1330-1400 on 4835 and Dari at 1515-1545 also on 4835 (Noel Green, England, March 30, DX LISTIENING DIGEST) ** POLAND. POLISH RADIO BROADCASTS IN HEBREW http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/6495145.stm Poland's public radio station has begun broadcasting a daily programme in Hebrew for Israelis, many of whom have roots in Poland. The 30- minute programme - Kol Polin (Voice of Poland) - is part funded by Poland's foreign ministry. The head of the radio's Hebrew section, Michael Hermon, said people should know about Jewish life in Poland, and "not only museums and concentration camps". Before the slaughter by the Nazis, some 3.5 million Jews lived in Poland. They formed Europe's biggest Jewish community - but most of them were wiped out in the Holocaust in World War II. Israeli tours always visit the former Nazi death camps of Auschwitz and Treblinka but often they have no contact with Poland's living Jewish communities, Mr Hermon told the BBC. Today it is estimated there are 30,000 people with Jewish roots living in Poland. Because the communist authorities stifled discussion about Jewish life, people have only been rediscovering it in the last 20 years, the BBC's Adam Easton reports. Synagogues have reopened and new rabbis have been appointed. Dear Glenn, The issue of listing the local Winter time [you must mean summer --- gh] the same as UTC is a silly mistake people at the RDP keep on making every time a time change takes place. This url below shows it nicely. http://tv.rtp.pt/EPG/radio/epg-dia.php?canal=5&ac=d&sem=e As to listening to odd items in a program such as "Caixa Postal / DXismo", that must be a weird choice so as to drive listeners off, I suppose. No reasonable explanation to such an "interesting" RDP option, I'm afraid, unless the only too obvious motive - no actual DX items, partly because nobody there really seems to know what they're doing about the content of programs of this sort. So, why on earth don't they find the right person - or simply terminate the DX feature and leave the mailbox aside? I don't know (Carlos Gonçalves, Portugal, March 27, DX LISTENING DIGEST) I would not be quite so quick to condemn it; there may not have been DX tips or news, but there was an item of some semi-technical nature, I think. Let`s see what the latest RUI DX program says (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) Hello, radio listeners and DX-ers. I'm Olexandr Yegorov and here is your programme - "The Whole World on the Radio Dial". I remind you that all times in this programme are given in UTC. We will start with a tentative complete Radio Ukraine's Summer A07 frequency schedule, valid from March 25-th to October 28-th 2007. Every hour of the day only one 100-kW transmitter in Kharkiv is operating alternatively for Europe and Russia, and at night a 500 kW transmitter in Lviv carries our 5-hour transmission targeted to North America. Kharkiv's transmitter operates at the following time on the following frequencies. Be attentive – the first frequency from the pair of each specific time range will be used from the 25-th of March through the summer. But in autumn, when the propagation becomes worse, the second frequency, which I’ll mention after the word “or”, will possibly replace (presumably on the 23-d of September) the first frequency and will be used up to the end of the season, the 28-th of October. So I start to read the schedule: * from 0 to 5 hours on 7530 or 5830 kHz for Russia with an azimuth of 55 ; * from 5 to 8 h-s on 9945 or 7420 kHz for Western Europe with an azimuth of 277 ; * from 8 to 13 h-s on 15675 or 9950 kHz also for Western Europe with an azimuth of 277 ; * from 13 to 17 h-s on 7530 or 5830 kHz for Russia with an azimuth of 55 ; * from 17 to 21 h-s on 7490 or 5830 kHz for Western Europe with an azimuth of 290 ; * from 21 to 24 h-s on 7510 or 5830 kHz for Western Europe with an azimuth of 290 . Lviv’s transmitter is operating for the Eastern part of North America from 23 to 4 h-s on 7440 or 5820 kHz with an azimuth of 303 . This transmitter with its excellent 8/8 curtain antenna has replaced the old Mykolaiv transmitter, which used the low efficient rhombic antenna. As you maybe know the Lviv transmitter relayed the Voice of Russia programmes in the Russian language on 7240 kHz in the winter seasons, and it was heard in the East of North America much better than Mykolaiv transmitter. Let’s hope that now the reception of RUI in North America becomes much better. The schedule of programmes in foreign languages is as follows: * a one-hour English language programme goes on the air at 21 h-s on 7490 or 5830 kHz, at 0 and 3 h-s on 7440 or 5820 kHz, at 11 h-s on 15675 or 9950 kHz; * a one-hour German language programme goes on the air at 17 & 20 h-s on 7490 or 5830 kHz, and at 23 h-s on 7510 or 5830 kHz; * the Ukrainian language programmes go on the air almost 24 h-s a day except the times and the frequencies which are reserved for English and German programmes. Finally, here is the schedule of the half-hour Romanian language programme. It goes on the air as usually in the Summer season at 17, 19.30 and 21.00 h-s on 657 kHz Medium Waves via a 25 kW transmitter in Chernivtsi, Western Ukraine. I remind you that this schedule is subject to changes. The up-to date schedule of the short-wave transmissions of RUI, as well as the schedule of Real Audio transmissions via Internet in the Ukrainian, English and German languages, can also be found on the website of the National Radio Company of Ukraine at the following address: http://www.nrcu.gov.ua You can hear the Ukrainian and English programmes also via satellite “Sirius 2”, an orbital position of 5 East, horizontal polarization, a frequency of 11.766 GHz, a symbol rate of 27.500 megasymbol per second, a forward error correction is 3/4. We shall be grateful to all those who will inform us about the situation involving Radio Ukraine’s frequencies. Please send us reports about reception conditions of RUI transmissions at your place on all the above-mentioned frequencies. I’d like to add that we’ll appreciate the realistic reports with not only the pleasant marks in the SINPO, but preferably with details and comments about possible interferences with our transmissions. Again the National Radio Company of Ukraine is living through bad times. A new spire of financial cuts has occurred this year. The cuts coincided with a raise in the tariffs for the transmission’s needs. . . http://www.dxing.ru/content/view/534/85/ (via DXLD) So first he says the summer frequency at 2100 is 7510, altho 7490 before 2100; and then he says after 2100 it is 7490, so which is it? Vaticana has a new relay via Sackville, on 6100 at 0230-0400, 100 kW, 240 degrees daily in French, English and Spanish. Heard in French at 0230, March 27 as I was checking out R. República, with which this collides, along with the jamming. Way to go. Catholix vs Commies again! Spanish presumably starts at 0320 as before on own frequencies, but really runs until 0400? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) Vatican R. via Sackville on 6100 is still colliding with R. República from secret location. UT March 30 at 0230, VR IS and French could be heard starting up, well underneath RR and jamming. Surely one of them will be moving soon, most likely Vatican. BTW, Joe Hanlon points out that there is another new VR relay via Sackville, on 9610 at 0030-0230 in Portuguese and Spanish (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) Viz.: From http://radiovaticana.org I've looked up the Americas listings and found another Vatican relay, likely via Canada: 9610 at 0030 in Portuguese, and 0100 and 0145 in Spanish, continuing until 0230. UT-3/30: Did not hear new Vatican relay via Sackville on 6100, swamped by R. República of course. Here are some alternates that VR and the guys at Sackville should consider: 6095, which is indeed between DGS- Anguilla and RR, has no stations active during the 0230-04 block, and might provide decent reception further west, as summer approaches. Or VR can use 6135 which should be open, and even if Japan in Swahili at 0330 shows up with only slight QRM, the Sackville relay can be heard easily there (Joe Hanlon, NJ, DX LISTENING DIGEST) As to VR via Canada, 9610 was heard with good level at 0030 check in Portuguese. Is there a beam change for the second SP broadcast at 0145? Should be the case since 0030-0145 would be for the southern cone/Brazil, then 0145-0230 for CAm (Joe Hanlon, NJ, ibid.) Contacto was obviously the very same program reported in DXLD 7-037 on March 18 also mentioning 1310 kHz. La clip è scaricabile su: http://swli05639fr.blogspot.com/ 73's (Francesco Ceccone, March 28, bclnews.it via DXLD) This modest proposal keeps being made, and keeps being ignored by the DRM proponents. I think they fear that if DRM does not ``make a noise`` in the middle of broadcast bands, it will be even more marginalised and unnoticed; not acknowledging that the noise it makes annoys countless listeners who might be more favourably disposed toward DRM if it were in exclusive NIB bands (gh, DXLD) ###
